Crayons to Cameras

Did you ever enter a coloring contest when you were a kid?  Well I did and that’s exactly where this story begins.

At age eight I entered a coloring contest sponsored by the Mr. Zing and Tuffy Show (I know, weird name but the show really was a thing).  It was THE #1 children’s television show in Oklahoma during the 1960’s.  The coloring page I submitted was selected as one of the grand prize winners!

The big day finally arrived for the LONG drive to Tulsa.  Well actually it was only an hour drive but remember I was only eight at the time.  We made it to the television station where I would appear on the show and collect my prize.  I had won a Polaroid 210 Land Camera.  This was the latest in camera technology during the late 1960’s.  It even came equipped with a flash bulb attachment!  How cool is that!  The camera was so awesome and I had a blast with it.

I think this is the point in the story where I can say “and the rest is history”.

Wow!  That was fifty years ago.  To be honest with you, I don’t color much anymore but my love for photography has continually grown.

Thank you Mr. Zing and Tuffy!  (and I still have that camera)
